Dr. Mahida has over fifty (50) years experience in engineering and land surveying. His most notable projects include the air rights survey for the Fort Shelby hotel; performing a boundary, topographical and construction survey for the Mercado sector of Mexicantown (Detroit, MI) and platting the Victoria Park subdivision in Detroit, MI.
Mr. Kirit T. Ravani, PE, CHMM
Principal for Environmental Engineering Practice
Mr. Ravani has worked in environmental engineering as a Professional Engineer in Detroit, MI since 1973. Mr. Ravani specializes in urban remediation/redevelopment strategies. His most notable projects include the assessment and remediation of the Interim and Permanent MGM Casino sites, closure of an automotive manufacturing plant in Weatherly, PA and the environmental assessment (due diligence and remedial planning) of over 1,200 acres for the City of Detroit's Far East Side redevelopment project.
Mr. James VanHavermaat, PE, PS

Mr. VanHavermaat has practiced industrial, commercial and municipal Civil Engineering in the Detroit Metropolitan Area since 1971. Mr. VanHavermaat focuses on industrial design and construction maintenance. He worked as the City Engineer for Warren and as Principal for Civil Engineering at Metco Services, Inc.

Staff Biographies
Vijay Mahida, Ph.D, P.E., P.S., CPA, JD
As President of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A. Corp. (EMLS), Dr. Vijay Mahida brings over forty (40) years of professional engineering and surveying experience to the table. Dr. Mahida provides day-to-day management of the Surveying and Civil Engineering practices at EMLS, as well as, leadership and mentoring of junior associates. Formerly known as METCO LAND S.E.A. Corp., Dr. Mahida has served as EMLS corporate President since 1992. Previous to operating EMLS, Dr. Mahida served as President of METCO Services, Inc., Vice President of Spalding DeDecker & Associates, Inc. and Chief Engineer at Nassaux-Hemsley, Inc. in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Mahida's most notable projects at METCO Land S.E.A. (now EMLS) include work for the Troy School District and the Fort Shelby Hotel in Detroit, MI. On both projects, Dr. Mahida's extensive experience in Surveying, Engineering and Business Management provided cost savings of over one hundred thousand dollars each to the clients. In addition to large-scale surveying and engineering projects, EMLS works on a daily basis with several banks to conduct mortgage loan inspection reports (formerly known as "mortgage surveys") and with many local developers and land owners for topographical, staking and boundary surveys. Dr. Mahida also provides extensive Civil Engineering experience for his projects including design of parking lots, utility corridors and construction management.
Previous to working with EMLS, Dr. Mahida served as President at METCO Services, Inc. (METCO) from 1983 to 2001. While at METCO, Dr. Mahida acted as Principal-in-Charge for two major projects within the City of Detroit: Jefferson-Connor Revitalization and Detroit Free Press Jefferson Plant Expansion. For the Jeffers0n-Connor Revitalization project, Dr. Mahida oversaw a team that conducted extensive topographical surveys for railroad relocation, boundary surveys and legal descriptions for the same railroad during the Jefferson-Connor Chrysler Plant expansion project. This project spearheaded development in the Far East Side of Detroit that EMLS continues to work on to this day. On the Detroit Free Press Expansion project, Dr. Mahida conducted topographical and construction staking surveys for a $42 million expansion project of the Jefferson Avenue plant. Due to the high level of excellence on the surveys, Dr. Mahida was asked by the owner to serve as construction supervisor for the project as well.
Dr. Mahida, as Vice President of Spalding DeDecker & Associates, Inc., worked on various municipal civil engineering projects in the cities of Mount Clemens, New Baltimore, St. Clair Shores, Roseville, and Eastpointe, and Townships of Clinton, Harrison, Chesterfield, Macomb, Shelby, and Bruce. He also worked as Principal-in-Charge for the Macomb County Public Works Commissioner's Office on intra-, as well as, inter-county drainage board's projects. He has extensive grant application and administration experience, having worked on projects within the above communities for grants amounting over $ 60 Million.
Dr. Mahida holds a Ph.D in Civil Engineering, a Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy and a J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is a Professional Civil Engineer, Professional Surveyor and Certified Public Accountant. He is a Diplomate of The American Academy of Environmental Engineers. All of Dr. Mahida's professional certifications are over thirty (30) years old. His extensive experience has garnered him positions as Adjunct Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy and Wayne State University, as well as, seats on the State of Michigan Board of Registration for Land Surveyors and Ferris State University Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology Surveying Engineering Degree Program.
Dr. Mahida served on the Board of Directors for Volunteers of America, Southeast Michigan, and on the Board of Trustees for the Bharatiya Temple, Troy, Michigan.
Kirit T. Ravani, PE, CHMM
As Senior Project Manager of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A Corp. (EMLS), Mr. Ravani provides leadership on Environmental Engineering projects, as well as, monitoring labor and organization tasks within the corporation. He also manages our office in the city of Detroit. Previous to this position, Mr. Ravani was the President of an environmental engineering and consulting firm in Detroit, MI from 1992 until 2008. Mr. Ravani also served as Vice President of City Management Corporation and Project Manager for General Motors Argonaut.
While at City Management, Mr. Ravani served as a client liaison and directed remedial efforts for plant decontamination, demolition, PCB treatment, underground and aboveground cleanup, TSCA, and RCRA projects.
While at General Motors Argonaut, Mr. Ravani managed construction and design projects including plant decommissioning, closure, decontamination, demolition, and design/construction/startup/training of wastewater treatment plants and operators. Mr. Ravani co-authored specifications, guidelines and procedures for plant closure, decontamination & demolition while serving on the Surplus Property Task Force at General Motors. In 1988 he received special recognition for achieving the corporation’s environmental compliance activities and for being extremely innovative and cost effective. This recognition came directly from the General Motors Executive Committee.
While at Giffels Associates, Mr. Ravani served as group leader of many design and construction projects including Detroit’s wastewater facilities planning project. The wastewater treatment and recycling projects included overall management and coordination involving some of Detroit’s major corporations.
Some of Mr. Ravani’s clients include General Motors, DEGC, City of Detroit — Department of Environmental Affairs, Public Lighting Department, Detroit Housing Commission, Texaco Corporation, MGM Grand Detroit, LLC, Wayne County — Corporation Counsel, Department of Public Services, and Willow Run Airport.
Kirit T. Ravani holds a Master of Science degree in civil/environmental engineering from Wayne State University and a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Michigan. Mr. Ravani has been practicing environmental engineering in the Detroit area as a Michigan P.E. since 1973. He is a Certified Hazardous Material Manager, has been trained for RBCA process from ASTM and is a certified UST professional. Mr. Ravani has presented plant closure works at the Engineering Society of Detroit, technical papers at the Water Environmental Federation in Los Angeles and Singapore, Hazmat conference in Detroit and at the Machinery Dealers National Association in Chicago. Mr. Ravani co-authored a paper that was presented at the 2003 Brownfields Conference and 2004 AEG Conference on innovative Sewage Lagoon closure methods.
Mr. Ravani has served as Vice Chair on the Hazardous Waste Appeals Board for the City of Novi, Michigan, co-chaired The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) Environmental Response Planning Conference, organized and chaired ESD’s Brownfield sites committee, and has served on the Detroit Regional Chamber’s (DRC) environmental committee. Mr. Ravani also served on the Environmental Justice Task Force for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Mr. Ravani currently serves on the D.A.C.’s Facilities Planning Committee and the Environmental Committee of the DRC.
For his efforts in environmental activity and education, Mr. Ravani has received numerous leadership and recognition awards, and The Detroit Free Press Business Section published a profile of Mr. Ravani’s entrepreneurship. In 2006, the D.A.C. News published a feature on Mr. Ravani’s business and personal successes.
James A. Van Havermaat, P.E., P.S.
As Senior Project Manager for Civil Engineering/Land Surveying of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A. Corp., Mr. VanHavermaat provided design engineering services for the Wyandotte Christian Church, Woodhaven, related to stormwater pond, design and management, Sanitary Sewer, design access to highway and MDOT Permits.
Prior to his employment with Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A., Mr. VanHavermaat was City Engineer for the City of Warren, Michigan. As City Engineer, VanHavermaat was responsible for directing the activities of the City's Engineering Division. The Engineering Division provides complete engineering and surveying services for the City’s municipal programs including paving, sewers, sidewalks, watermains, small buildings, maintenance contracts, roofing contracts and other related projects. During his tenure, he instituted a sewer system evaluation study and directed the design and construction of several projects which have significantly reduced basement flooding problems. A GIS system which included computerizing all of the city’s utility and parcel maps, as well as cataloging all of the utility structures was established under his direction.
Prior to his employment as Warren’s City Engineer, VanHavermaat was Vice-President of Engineering for METCO Services, Inc., Detroit, Michigan. He supervised the design of Wastewater Plant improvements for the Wayne County Downriver Treatment Plant, and the design and construction of wastewater pumping systems, collection systems, wastewater odor control facilities, and watermains in the City of Warren.
Prior to his employment with METCO Services, VanHavermaat was Chief Engineer for Utility Operations, City of Houston, Texas. As Chief Engineer for Utility Operations, he was responsible for directing the activities of the City's Water Maintenance Branches. The Water Maintenance operation has an annual operating budget of $51 Million and 948 employees. The activities in this operation include distribution system maintenance, ground water production maintenance, vehicle maintenance, budget administration, payroll, and personnel.
Prior to his employment as Chief Engineer for Houston, Texas, VanHavermaat was General Superintendent of Wastewater Services, City of Corpus Christi, Texas. As General Superintendent, he managed all Wastewater Services Activities. These activities include Wastewater Treatment, Collection Systems Maintenance, Industrial User Compliance, Subdivision Review, Sewer Construction, and Sewer Tap Installation.
Prior to his employment as General Superintendent, VanHavermaat was Design Section Chief for Spalding DeDecker & Associates, Madison Heights, Michigan. His responsibilities as Design Section Chief included the supervision of all engineering activities related to Water and Wastewater Treatment. These activities included facilities plan, facilities design, grant administration, contract administration, infiltration & inflow studies, sewer system evaluation studies, industrial pretreatment programs, user charge systems & rate studies, sewer use ordinances, shop drawings review, public participation programs, and start up services. Major projects included: Facilities Planning for the Wayne County Downriver Wastewater Treatment Plant (100 MGD), Facilities Planning for the City of Mount Clemens Wastewater Treatment Plant (6 MGD-AWT), Step II and Step III projects.
Prior to his employment with Spalding DeDecker & Associates, VanHavermaat was Engineer and Chief Estimator for Ric-Man Construction Company, Sterling Heights, Michigan. Ric-Man Construction Company is engaged in the construction of water mains, sewer lines, pump stations, small treatment facilities, excavation projects, and paving projects ranging in size from $300,000 to $13 million.
Mr. VanHavermaat received a Bachelor of Science from Detroit Institute of Technology, a Master’s of Business Administration, as well as, a Master’s of Civil Engineering, both from Wayne State University.
He is certified as a Licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator; Michigan – Class A, as well as, a Licensed Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. He is also a Professional Engineer and a Licensed Land Surveyor, both registered in Michigan.
Ravi Subhedar
As Senior Project Manager for Real Estate Appraisal of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A. Corp., Mr. Subhedar focuses on both residential and commercial appraisal. He is a Certified General Appraiser with over twelve years of professional real estate experience, including Commerical, Industrial, Business, and Residential Appraisals. The list of Commercial Properties which he has appriased exceeds over 200 properties located throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties in Michigan, as well as, in parts of Ohio. The types of property vary from Apartment Building, Shopping Center, Church, Office Building, Party Store, Auto Collision Shop, to Commerical Vacant Land, to name a few. As a Lender, Franklin Bank has relied heavily on his services.
Subhedar also has a wide range of experience in all types of residential properties such as single family homes, condominiums, 2-4 family homes, income properties, estate homes, lake-front properties, high value (jumbo) homes (up to 4.5 million value), rural homes, vacant land, etc. His other areas of interest are Valuation Services vs. Appraisal Practice, Mortgage Fraud, Appraising REO & Foreclosure Properties and Relocation Appraisals.
Subhedar received his ‘Valuation Specialist’ License for the State of Michigan in 1997. He received his ‘Certified General Appaiser’ License for the State of Michigan in 1999. He received HUD approval for FHA appraisals in 2000.
Subhedar is a Candidate Member of both the American Society of Appraisers and the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. His other professional memberships include the Birmingham, Bloomfield, Rochester & South Oakland Association of Realtors (BBRSOAR), the Michigan Association of Realtors, the Realcomp II Ltd (MLS service), Realmatrix/Realsource (MLS Service), the National Association of Realtors, and the Michigan Association of Realtors.
Bruce D. Hassen, P.E., CHMM, CP
As a Senior Project Engineer of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A. Corp., Mr. Hassen provides project leadership and technical expertise on soil and groundwater remediation, industrial wastewater treatment, industrial site assessment and industrial site reclamation projects. Mr. Hassen performed similar work for Enviro Matrix, Inc. prior to working for EMLS for over 15 years.
Previously as Senior Project Engineer at WW Engineering and Science, Inc., Mr. Hassen served as project engineer and project manager for a Phase I and II environmental site assessment for a 3.6 million square feet manufacturing plant that was redeveloped by a new owner. Also, Mr. Hassen served as project engineer on RCRA closure projects and industrial wastewater treatment system upgrades.
Formerly, Mr. Hassen consulted as a contract engineer at GM Argonaut AEC for seven years. Mr. Hassen served as project and field engineer for four major plant closing projects. These plants ranged in size from 1.0 to 3.4 million square feet. Responsibilities included Phase I, II, and III site assessments, contracting for laboratory and drilling services, overseeing sampling, and evaluating reports of consultants and overseeing remediation projects. Mr. Hassen also served as project and design engineer on major industrial wastewater pre-treatment plant projects.
Mr. Hassen served as project engineer at Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr, and Huber on preliminary and final design of industrial wastewater and contaminated groundwater treatment systems. At Giffels Associates, Inc., Mr. Hassen served as staff engineer in the design of industrial wastewater treatment plants.
At EMLS, Mr. Hassen has provided leadership and senior engineering on highly visible and complex projects. Notable successes include major plant decontamination and closure projects at General Motors Corporation, Worldwide Facilities Group; senior engineering and assessment for the interim casino project for MGM Grand Detroit, LLC; project engineering at General Motors Corp. for industrial wastewater recycling and treatment system upgrade programs and numerous effective closures of commercial and industrial sites.
Mr. Hassen received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University in 1973 and a Master of Science degree in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1974. Mr. Hassen has twenty-eight years of experience as a consulting engineer in environmental engineering. Mr. Hassen became a registered professional engineer ( Michigan ) in 1981, was certified as a Registered Environmental Property Assessor by NREP in 1991, as a Hazardous Materials Manager by IHMM in 1992 and Permanent CUSTP by the State of Michigan, 1996. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Water Environment Federation.
Ajay J. Dave, P.E.
As Senior Civil Engineer of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A. Corp., Mr. Dave provides project leadership and technical expertise in Civil Engineering Design for various residential, commercial, and industrial projects throughout lower Michigan. His area of expertise includes site layout, planning, designing of roads (paving and grading), designing of underground utilites, such as, watermains, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers.
Previously as an independent Civil Engineering consultant to Metco Land S.E.A. Corp., Mr. Dave worked on various projects including The Word Network and Bedford Villa, both in Southfield, Michigan. The design of The Word Network radio station and Bedford Villa, a senior housing complex included designing of roads (paving and grading), designing of underground utilities like watermains, sanitary and storm sewers, and storm detention basins. In both projects, he worked closely with the architects in each phase of the project to fix layout.
From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Dave worked as Senior Civil Engineer for Land Development Consulting Services, Inc. providing civil engineering design for various residential projects. His projects include Autumn Woods Site Condominium in Taylor, Fox Creek of Brownstown South in Brownstown, and Cypress Garden Condominium in Taylor, all in Wayne County; and Swan Creek Site Condominium in Frenchtown Township in Monroe County. Once again, his design included layout planning, designing of roads (paving and grading), and designing of underground utilities and obtaining permits and approval for construction from Wayne County and other local communities.
From 1999 to 2005, Mr. Dave served as Senior Civil Engineer at R. K. Engineering, Inc., providing civil engineering design, including layout planning, designing of roads (paving and grading), as well as, underground utilities. The design of watermains and sanitary sewers included preparing plan layouts, designing system and drawing profiles, preparing utility crossing information. Projects in Wayne County nclude Hawthorne Ridge Subdivision (208 Lots) in the City of Flat Rock, Golf Pointe Condominium in the City of Taylor, and B.A.P.S. Temple in the City of Wayne. Projects in Macomb County include Washington Square Apartments in Washington Township, Manzella Industrial Condominium in Macomb Township, Evola Music in Shelby Township, and Trinity Church in Utica.
Prior to 1998, Mr. Dave was Senior Civil Engineer at Space Applications Center (an Indian Space Research Organization) in Ahmedabad, India. He was involved in estimating, bidding, and billing procedures of laboratory buildings, office buildings, residential areas, and roads, while providing construction and maintenance services.
Mr. Dave received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, specializing in Transportation Engineering from Gujarat University, India in 1981. Dave has twenty-seven years of civil engineering experience. Mr. Dave was certified and registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan in 2005.
John W. Krocker
Mr. John Krocker joined the staff of Enviro Matrix Land S.E.A. Corp. (EMLS) as a Senior Environmental Scientist in the summer of 2008. Mr. Krocker's area of expertise and responsibility center at EMLS involves regulatory compliance and environmental management systems. Currently, he is assisting a municipal power plant to continue their compliance efforts, as it relates to air, water and solid waste, and facility management, including safety aspects. Mr. Krocker also works closely with Ms. Moritz in new business development, especially in the manufacturing sector as his experience in cost reduction due to environmental audits is highly valuable.
Prior to working with EMLS, Mr. Krocker was the Owner/Principal of Krocker Environmental Services, Project Manager/ Environmental Manager for Chemical Management Associates, Inc., and a field chemist for SK Services (division of Safety Kleen). Through these experiences, Mr. Krocker developed a system to design and implement ISO 14001 procedures for large and small scale clients. He strongly believes that proper environmental management throughout the manufacturing process saves a client time and monies in the short and long term.
Mr. Krocker holds a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Michigan. He is fully certified as an ISO 14001 Auditor and as a Michigan Certified Stormwater Operator. He is also certified as an Assessor and Inspector for asbestos in the State of Michigan. Furthermore, he is 40-hour trained for HAZWOPER and carries a Confined Space Entry supevisor's certificate. Krocker has also completed SARA Title III, Tier Two training, as well as, MIOSHA Safety & Health training. He is a member of the Michigan Association of Environmental Professionals.
